Ria Ama is an artist with a background in traditional Japanese sumi painting. Her work focuses on experiencing the "moment" of creation and expression. Its simplicity attempts to leave space for the viewer to inhabit the piece, and to sympathize with the figures or characters depicted. Her work translates a personal, introspective moment into a visual metaphor.
Ria holds a BFA in Textile Design from Parsons School of Design. After graduating from Parsons, she directed CD/Record designs in Tokyo. She worked as an animator on the Sprint flashlight advertising campaign in the summer of 2007 in Los Angeles. She recieved her MFA from the USC School of Cinematic Arts, Division of Animation & Digital Arts in May 2009. Her films have been screened internationally at numerous festivals and received various awards and nominations.
